Hill Intermediate Golden Sower Program

Golden Sower Readers

Each year the Golden Sower Literature Award is awarded by the children of Nebraska to the primary, intermediate, and young adult book they select as their favorite. Each year a statewide committee selects as nominees for each level ten books which stimulate thinking, introduce different types of literature, encourage independent reading, increase library skills, and foster an appreciation for excellence in writing and illustrating. The Golden Sower program motivates children to read quality literature and a wide variety of books.

Children are eligible to vote for their favorite Golden Sower nominee if they read or listen to at least four of the nominated books. Book talks were given in the fall to Hill students in grades 3-5 and each of those children received a Hill Golden Sower record form for use in summarizing content of books read. Special recognition was given to those third-fifth grade students who read all ten nominees, write a summary of each book, and successfully complete an oral conference with Mrs. Pardee. Starting in January Mrs. Pardee read the primary nominees to students in kindergarten through grade three. Third grade students at Hill were able to choose to participate in either the primary or the intermediate category.

Congratulations to the following students who read all ten nominees, wrote summaries on each book, and discussed each book with Mrs. Pardee. You did a super job!
